Construction worker hit by car, killed on-the-job

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2012 | Death Benefits |

Working in construction and working on the side of the road brings with it certain risks, but as long as your employer has sufficient safety procedures in place, you shouldn’t have to worry about any accidents. When an employee is killed in a workplace accident, however, questions arise about whether the employer has actually provided a safe work environment. Families whose loved ones have died on-the-job can also apply for death and dependency benefits in order to cover the financial burden of the accident.

With the number of highways and roads in and around Denver and the near constant need for road repairs, it is not uncommon to see construction workers out on the roads. The construction crews on Colorado roads, however, should be well-protected against dangerous or careless drivers with adequate signs and barriers. Yet, when something does happen, it is a tragedy.

A construction worker was killed in an out-of-state accident recently when a driver drove through the construction zone and smashed into the worker. It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle or whether the accident was purely the result of reckless driving. Police are continuing to investigate the accident, but the 27-year-old tragically died shortly after being hit.

The loss of loved ones is always a traumatic experience for a family. In addition to the pain and grief of the accident, a family may also suffer a financial blow with the end of the individual’s income. Although immediately after a death isn’t always the most convenient time to worry about legal matters, it is important to speak with a Colorado death benefits lawyer early in order to start the process of applying for benefits.
