Many people in Denver may know someone with a traumatic brain injury and the difficulty he or she may have in rebuilding his or her life. For those who don’t know someone who has suffered a head injury personally, there are stories across Colorado of workers suffering serious brain injuries in workplace accidents. In a recent announcement, a young man has finally settled his workers’ compensation case after suffering a traumatic brain injury at the age of 18. The then-teenager had been painting on 20-foot high scaffolding. Unfortunately, the young man had an accident and ended up falling the whole 20 feet to the ground, sustaining a serious brain injury.
Since his accident, the young man has needed constant care. He was previously cared for by his father, but his father had to utilize an adult rehabilitation facility to watch his son in order to continue working. As it became more difficult to work and care for his son, however, the father was forced to look for a rehabilitation facility that could look after the young man both day and night.
The former painter has been depressed and has been caught harming himself since his fall. Physicians have also diagnosed him with depression, multiple personality disorder, anxiety and psychosis. Many medical professionals also believe the brain injury has left him with cognitive defects.
The young man has since finished a lawsuit against a workers’ compensation insurance company and will be receiving monthly payments from an $8.9 million award. As this young man struggles to get better from his life-altering injury, he at least will have the money he needs to ensure he has the care necessary to heal.
