Father killed while on the job

Those who work in dangerous professions in Colorado may be at risk every time they show up to work. However, with proper safety precautions in place, employees should not fear being seriously injured or even losing their life at work.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has promulgated safety regulations to be followed by management in their business operations. Properly training employees in safety precautions and the use of protective gear can prevent many life threatening injuries and protect workers from dying in a work-related accident.

Were such precautions followed by a drilling company? That is the question raised by the recent events in which one of the company's employees died while on the job.

The 42-year-old worker was killed in an accident on a construction job site. The company was in the process of clearing a right of way for a natural gas pipeline. One of the preparations that was necessary in order to clear the area was to cut down a tree in the vicinity.

The deceased worker was using a chainsaw to remove the tree, when the tree "kicked back" and struck the worker. He was knocked to the ground. The worker suffered head injuries from the impact, and did not survive.

Could this fatal workplace accident have been prevented? Were all safety precautions being followed?

This man's family may be entitled to collect workers' compensation death benefits for his untimely death as a result of this work-related accident. State workers' compensation laws, however, are complicated and require experienced guidance as to how to recover the benefits that one deserves.
