Work-related neck pain may be reduced by yoga

Nearly everyone in the Denver area has experienced neck pain before; in fact, one study suggests that two-thirds of all people will have neck pain at some point in their lives. For some people in Colorado, that pain may come from a work-related injury, but many others may just develop neck pain because of the everyday, repeated actions they perform at work.

When neck pain interferes with an individual’s ability to work, it may be time to apply for workers’ compensation. As there are many sources of neck pain, it is important to consult a workers’ compensation attorney who can help find evidence that it was work-related activities that caused the pain. Failing to provide sufficient or adequate evidence may lead to an application for worker’s compensation being rejected.

For those individuals who are living with neck pain, a new study has shown that yoga will go a long way to lessen chronic neck pain. It is believed that a yoga class will help to develop neck muscles while increasing flexibility. The study was published in the Journal of Pain and recorded greater reductions in neck pain for people who take a 90-minute yoga class once a week for nine weeks than those who did other exercise.

Researchers worked with volunteers who indicated they lived with long-term neck pain. Of the 76 volunteers, some were given exercise routines, such as walking or stretching, while others were told to take a yoga class. By the end of the study, those who had taken yoga noticed the intensity of their neck pain had fallen by half, while the others’ only improved by one-fifth.

When applying for workers’ compensation, it is important for Colorado employees to follow their attorneys’ and doctors’ advice. If they don’t, they may not only jeopardize their applications, but also their health.
