Recent explosion raises questions around safety at propane plants

A few weeks ago, workers were stunned to hear of an explosion at a propane plant in the south. New reports retold eyewitness accounts that described pillars of fire shooting into the air and multiple booms from the blast. A number of workers suffered serious injuries.

Though this accident didn't occur in Colorado, there are similar plants like it in the state. The accident raises a number of concerns and questions, especially for workers who find themselves in a similar environment each day. These same questions were raised in the news report following the plant explosion.

Could the accident have been prevented with better safety measures? Was the company negligent with training and existing safety precautions? What steps will be taken to reduce the risk of this happening again? At this moment, there are no clear answers. But hopefully for the injured workers, and propane plant workers around the country, the end result could be a safer work environment.
