Injured contractors claims could go beyond workers' compensation

An earlier post recounted a construction accident that left one man with minor injuries. Three decorative panels made of concrete had fallen on the vehicle he was in. That was just one example of the many different ways a worker could get injured while at a construction site. Scaffolding or ladders can topple, exposed wiring can cause electrocution and even the act of lifting boxes or moving heavy objects can cause back injuries.

But what if you're a subcontractor? If you're injured on the job, can you claim benefits like workers' compensation? The short answer is yes. But in some situations, a subcontractor may be able to recover more money by filing a third-party liability claim.

Eley_9272013_1.jpgIt can be difficult trying to figure out what type of claim you should file. With medical bills, insurance forms and time off work to recover, you want to do what makes the most sense for you and your family. Before making any decisions, you should speak with someone who understands workers' compensation law.
