Better, stronger, faster... could bionic limbs be reality?

Colorado residents, the future may be upon us! A team of engineers have created what is now being referred to as the first "bionic man". The "bionic man" is actually a robot that engineers have been working on, using parts from over a dozen manufacturers. This type of technology has many implications, especially on aesthetic prostheses work. Whether an accident victim loses an arm, a leg, or even suffers a spinal cord injury, robotics technology could help that individual regain some functionality.

Eley_10112013_1.jpgThe robot itself was inspired by a social psychologist who lives with a bionic prosthesis limb. It bears striking resemblance to the man, particularly in the face. But the robot has a number of other functionalities that mirror human functionalities. The use of a walking machine helps the robot sit and move and an artificial heart circulates blood throughout the "bionic man".

While the robot is not exactly like its human inspiration, it does offer hope to those who have suffered a life-changing injury, including injuries sustained in work accidents.
