Construction worker injured at work when he fell into trench

Whenever excavations take place on construction sites in Colorado or elsewhere, all workers are at risk. It is the responsibility of construction company owners to ensure all safety precautions are in place to prevent circumstances that can lead to workers being injured at work. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration prescribes strict safety regulations related to trench safety.

It is not clear whether adequate precautions were in place at a construction site in another state where a worker recently fell into an excavated trench. Reportedly, rescue crews rushed to the scene shortly before noon. They say that although they could hear the worker and talk to him, they were unable to get to him.

They called for the help of the fire department, and a rescue system was set up to hoist the employee from the trench. The rescue process took about 30 minutes before medics could transport the injured worker to the hospital. He was fortunate not to suffer more than minor injuries, as most trench accidents result in severe injuries or worse. In fact, this incident came only six months after another worker lost his life in a trench accident in the same area.

Any construction worker in Colorado who is injured at work may have to face several financial obstacles. Along with medical expenses, those whose injuries are severe enough to cause absence from work will have to cope with the unanticipated loss of wages. Any victim of an on-the-job injury can claim workers' compensation benefits to help him or her through the difficult time of recuperation.
