Workers' compensation available when employee injured on job

One minute everything is going great, but then something happens. Perhaps the Colorado employee slips on a wet floor, trips on loose carpet or an object hits him or her. The end result is that the employee has been hurt. When this happens, workers' compensation insurance is usually available to take care of the employee.

The majority of employers are required to carry workers' compensation insurance. The purpose of such insurance is to cover the employee in case of a job-related injury or disability. Additionally, this insurance is available regardless of who is at fault for the injury, unless the employee purposefully caused the injury or was in violation of company policy or state or federal law.

Workers' compensation insurance typically covers medical care required to care for the work-related injury, compensation for time lost from work, retraining expenses if the employee is unable to return to the type of work he or she was responsible for. Additionally, it can provide benefits to loved ones if the injury proves fatal. The employee is generally eligible for coverage within a short period of time following the workplace injury.

While the Colorado employee utilizing workers' compensation insurance is typically prevented from suing his or her employer, he or she may still find legal counsel to be invaluable. The paperwork associated with workers' compensation can be cumbersome. Additionally, it is important to make sure that the injured employee receives everything that he or she is entitled to. Experienced legal counsel can make sure that the employee is properly taken care of in this regard.
